Sedgefield may be a relatively small seaside community, but it is well serviced with facilities. There are several primary schools (both English and Afrikaans) in the area, such as Laerskool Sedgefield Primary and Sedgefield Primary School, with high schools and tertiary education institutions situated in the nearby towns of Knysna and George.

Sports-wise, Afroventures and the PiliPili Xtreme Sport Centre arrange exciting and extreme sporting activities. There are also several sporting clubs for golf, tennis and bowls. 

The locally situated Sedgefield Police Station keeps residents safe and secure, and there are many supermarkets, delis, hardware stores, pharmacies and décor stores for retail needs. One of TripAdvisor’s 10 best food markets in the world takes place in Sedgefield every Saturday morning, selling some delicious fresh farm fare, slow food and other tasty delicacies. 

The Sedgefield Clinic offers quality public healthcare, while several private hospitals are found in Knysna, such as the Provincial Hospital and Life Knysna Private Hospital.
