The lowdown on a real estate career
Real estate is an ideal profession for a people's person who is interested in an exciting way of life. In order to share more about the real estate profession and all that a career with Jawitz Properties has to offer, we spoke to two Jawitz #RealPartners from our Randburg office who have already reached the prestigious "Premier Club" status within the company. Rene Kern and Shirley-Ann van Rensburg provided the lowdown.
A typical day in the life of a real estate agent
An estate agent's day involves getting a number of tasks done. Planning one's day is the most important element of your success, and both Rene and Shirley make time every day to be grateful and to focus on a work/life balance that prioritises the mind, body and soul.
Daily feedback must be given to buyers, sellers and attorneys, and channels of communication must be kept open with buyers and sellers at all times. Viewing appointments are part of daily life, as is finalising valuations to provide real and honest advice to sellers.
"Since a lot of our tasks are related to admin, we get these done first thing in the morning in order to be more flexible and available to our clients," shared Shirley-Ann. Communicating with people is key to being a real estate agent, and Rene added that every day includes marketing, networking and making phone calls - as well as constant communication with colleagues.
Advice for #RealPartners starting out
When asked what advice they would give a new Jawitz #RealPartner who wished to reach for the stars, both Shirley-Ann and Rene mentioned the importance of taking the time to listen to clients and understand what their needs are. "Be real and true to yourself and to the client, and go out of your way to build the type of client relationships that will last a lifetime," advised Rene.
"Go above and beyond your duties and help wherever you can," added Shirley-Ann. "As a #RealPartner, you need to work smart, work hard and stay persistent and positive." She also explained that the little things matter. "Be visible in your area," she advises. "Get to know the area and make use of marketing tools like mall expos, team activities in shopping centres and community events."
The journey into the real estate industry
For Shirley-Ann, her career in real estate began in finance and bond origination, helping real estate professionals conclude sales. "It made me realise that I wanted more," she explained. "I wanted to expand my knowledge and expertise in the real estate industry." Rene's real estate journey began when she was asked to cold call and help to build a database. "From there, Jawitz Properties welcomed me with open arms," she commented. "I have become a successful agent together with my business partner, Shirley-Ann, and we are backed by a phenomenal brand."
