Love your home this Valentine's month

Category News

February is the month of love and it's a great time to talk about one of the less-mentioned great loves: the love you have for your home. Jawitz Properties delves into a few quick strategies that you can adopt to make yourself love your home even more. By getting rid of clutter, adding some new pops of colour and finding the best possible ways to use your space, you can fall in love with your home all over again this Valentine's month.

Strategies for conquering clutter

Decluttering your home probably sounds like a huge undertaking, but if you adopt a smart strategy, it can be surprisingly painless - and it will make a huge difference in helping your home look its best. One practical way to tackle clutter if you don't have a lot of free time is to dedicate just five minutes a day to the task. A great way to motivate yourself is to choose a small area of your home to start your decluttering mission in. Take before and after photos of this area and use these pictures to get inspired to tackle another area. The rule of thumb is that if you haven't used it, worn it or enjoyed it in the past year, it's time to donate it, repurpose it or throw it away.

Adding some new touches

Breathing new life into your home doesn't need to cost a fortune. It can just mean investing in some new scatter cushions or an area rug. Easy and affordable ways to redecorate your living space include painting a feature wall or putting some framed art or prints up. Indoor plants add a touch of something special to any living space and if you don't have a green thumb, artificial plants - if chosen well - can have the same impact. You can give your living space a dynamic new focal point by repurposing an old bookcase, putting together a collection of complementary accessories (photo frames work well) or putting up some floating shelves.

Introducing pops of colour

Pantone's colour of the year for 2022 is "Very Peri", a vibrant periwinkle hue that will brighten up any living space. The well-known paint brand Dulux has announced its colour of the year to be "Bright Skies" which is a soft blue/grey colour reminiscent of the sky and the great outdoors. Plascon's colour combination of the year is a blend of Pear Fantasy (a soft yellow-green hue), Desert Water (a pale blue) and Zanzibar (a natural light brown hue). Introducing a new colour to your living space - whether it's one of these colours or your own personal favourite - is a great way to fall in love with your living space.

Make the most of your space

If your home is relatively small, you may find yourself on the lookout for ways to make more space. On the other hand, if your home is larger, you may be looking for ways to get the maximum benefit from the space that you have available. If you're looking to make more space, things like floating shelves, wall-mounted hooks and multifunctional furniture (think ottomans and coffee tables with drawers or open shelving) can make all the difference. If there's an area of your home that isn't being used to its full potential, consider whether it can become a home office or a storage space.
